Occusept is an ophthalmological eye drop to give supportive treatment for human eye diseases. It is used for tear disorders of various aetiologies, dry eye syndrome of various aetiologies, problems associated with the use of certain drugs or external conditions (high temperature, wind, etc.), to soothe the eyes during acute or chronic conjunctivitis of a non-infectious origin, during eye irritation due to external conditions (sun, dust, smoke, etc.) or due to wearing contact lenses and prolonged visual stress. The solution can be used for rinsing the eyes when they have been affected by irritants and to remove foreign bodies.
The product is in the form of a low-viscosity isotonic solution with Euphrasia officinalis extract (eyebright) and a lipid component - LipoZoom. Does not contain cytotoxic preservatives (BAC), the preservative effect is ensured by a combination of zinc sulphate and boric acid.
Eyebright leave extract among the substances it contains is the iridoid aucubin, which has astringent and antimicrobial effects.
Hypromellose forms a protective film on the eye’s surface.
Boric acid and sodium tetraborate show antifungal and antibacterial effects. Zinc sulphate is antimicrobial.
The solution also contains a lipid component - LipoZoom - a fraction of purified soy lecithin (phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine). These substances occur naturally in tears and improve the eye’s coverage by the protective film - they prolong the time for which the film is uninterrupted by forming a lipid layer which prevents evaporation and disruption of the continuous layer of the tear film. Thus they significantly improve patient comfort during tear formation disorders.
Phosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid, it is a major component of lipid membranes in most organisms. The main source of phosphatidylcholine is soybean, from which it is obtained together with lecithin and is further isolated and purified using chromatographic techniques.
